Adventures in the Deep Blue Sea

We were all about as dirty as Claudia, but her pants showed it best. It is a good thing we are on an island, though, as we just jumped off the pier and bathed in the salt water. Posted by Hello

Sylvia did a fire dance for us once we got into the inner cave where we hung out for a little while. My friend, Dave, took this picture on a slow shutter speed and it came out really cool. Posted by Hello

Climbing into the Bat Cave. We went caving last night and it was an amazing experience. I was crawling through muddy caves in flip flops and a skirt, sliding through crevices barely large enough for me to fit through. The bats were actually quite welcome because they caused some circulation in the air. Otherwise it was pretty stale and stagnant. I thought I would be more claustrophobic than I was, once you got over the initial shock of it, it was pretty cool! Posted by Hello

A Ceiba tree, for which the town of La Ceiba is named. I had Dan stand next to it so you could get an idea of how huge it is (and it continues to go up for about another 20 meters). This tree must be at least two hundred years old. Posted by Hello

At this point in my classes, I know about enough Spanish to communicate with a two year old. This is Diego, the grandson of my host family. Posted by Hello

Some classmates and I went to the Rio Maria for a swim and wound up on a bit of an adventure. We had to go down a different way than we came up because of the bees, so we scrambled down the river pathway over rocks and falls. It was interesting, but I have done it now and don't plan on doing it again anytime soon. Posted by Hello
